Five things to keep in mind when planning your big fat Indian Destination Wedding!

    May 16th, 2012

Happy Wedding Wednesday! Today we are featuring a guest blog post by Candice Pereira of {Marry Me Weddings}. In this post Candice talks about the to-do’s for planning a Destination Indian Wedding.

We all love weddings! So vibrant and full of fun! And a destination wedding, its even more fun – nonstop fun, actually! After every wedding I plan, I hear the same thing from the couple – it went by so fast! And so we see so many couples today that want a destination wedding, and more time to enjoy and spend with friends and family! But keep in mind, the planning that goes into putting a big fat Indian destination wedding together is no easy task! Here are some things to keep in mind when planning your dream wedding!

    1.    Guest list – The average Indian wedding will have an unending guest list. But if you are having a destination wedding, a guest list of under 300 is ideal. Compiling a guest list is a huge task, so we suggest you get this done as soon as possible. Remember that curbing your guest list is not an easy job and your final number of guests will affect a lot of areas – the venues you choose, the kind of celebrations and more!

Engagement Photos of Vidhya and Puneet

    March 28th, 2012

Happy Wedding Wednesday! Today we are featuring a beautiful Engagement Session of a lovely couple, Vidhya and Puneet, photographed by Lin and Jirsa. I was super thrilled when Vidhya, our avid reader, got in touch with me to feature her engagement photos. I fell in love with her beautiful story! She shares the same with the Marigold Events Readers. Here’s wishing the couple a happily ever after! Enjoy!

    How They Met
Puneet met Vidhya when he crashed her birthday party almost six years ago.  Vidhya was at Joseph’s Cafe in Hollywood with some of her girlfriends, and one of them was good friends with Puneet.  In fact, despite having a ton of mutual friends, Puneet and Vidhya had never crossed paths until that night.  Puneet called his friend and asked her if he could stop by the club so that he could see her, and that was the beginning of Puneet and Vidhya’s love story.  They spent the whole night talking and dancing, and went on their first date a few weeks after.  The two never looked back after that.

    How He Proposed
Puneet proposed when Vidhya visited him in India in 2010.  Puneet was working in India for a few months and Vidhya went to Delhi to visit him.  At the beginning of her trip, Puneet made her buy a travel journal so that they could record their thoughts of the trip. Puneet is a writer and very thoughtful, so Vidhya did not think much of it, and they wrote in the journal almost every day.

A few days later, the couple headed to Kerala to celebrate New Years.  On December 30, while they cruising the spectacular backwaters of Kerala on a houseboat, the couple discussed getting engaged, and Puneet asked Vidhya a ton of questions about what she wanted and did not want, which made her think the proposal was months away.

The next night, Puneet and Vidhya were getting ready to go out to a party, and while she was sitting on a sofa putting on my shoes, Puneet asked her to read his latest journal entry.  He had written a lot of stuff about their relationship and how much he loved Vidhya. Vidhya did not really read his entry because she really wanted to get going and start partying.

    Featured Wedding: Kaajal and Vinesh

    March 21st, 2012

Today we are featuring destination wedding of Kaajal and Vinesh. Enjoy the beautiful pictures from this wedding by Matt Andrews Photography.

Kaajal and Vinesh’s wedding was all about family and beautiful Hindu rituals and traditions. The couple was married in an outdoors wedding ceremony at the Indian Temple and Cultural Center in Memphis, Tennessee.

From haldi to the pheras to the playful wedding games, I am loving the beautiful ceremony details in this wedding. The bride looked absolutely, as she made her grand entrance in a stunning in a red and orange lehenga, and a big traditional “nath” or nose ring. The groom wore a cream sherwani with a maroon stole, and looked very handsome.

The lawns of the cultural center were completely transformed specifically for this wedding. By transformed, we mean they actually created a pond with an island. In the middle of the island they built a giant gazebo,  with fountains and floating lights. With orange and gold organza drapings,  and florals, the mandap looked absolutely gorgeous. Weather wise, Kaajal and Vinesh’s wedding day turned out to be an amazingly beautiful day.

Rajasthani Royale Sangeet of Nisha and Jiten

    March 14th, 2012

This week we are featuring An Affair To Remember: Destination Wedding of Nisha and Jiten. The lovely photos are a courtesy of Mili Ghosh Photography. Nisha and Jiten had a wedding celebration spanning four days, where they hosted around eleven events in Hua Hin, Thailand. The theme of their wedding focused on their “Travel Journey”, which is the very core of their relationship. From Spain to Rajasthan, they unfolded each event with a destination.

Yesterday we featured the Japanese themed high tea Mehendi of Nisha and Jiten. Today we are featuring the dazzling evening of Nisha and Jiten’s Sangeet. For the Sangeet the theme was Rajasthan Royale. Like all their events, the couple’s planning was impeccable, which was reflected in the smallest of the details. The shades of pink in the decor and lighting were reminiscent of Jaipur – The Pink City. There were two gorgeous grandstands on either sides of the dance floor and wood work against the walls. Looking at the decor, one can’t help but feel as if they are in Jaipur.

The grand doli entrance of Nisha set an upbeat mood for the night. Charged up performances from friends and family were followed by a big surprise for the guests: Mika Singh. The ever so popular singer from Bollywood, Mika wowed all the guests with his singing. From young teenagers to uncles and aunts, they all danced and rocked to his peppy numbers. So sit back and enjoy the beautiful pictures from the royal sangeet of Nisha and Jiten.

Featured Destination Wedding: Nisha & Jiten’s Mehendi Celebration

    March 13th, 2012

This week we are featuring An Affair To Remember: Destination Wedding of Nisha and Jiten. The lovely photos are a courtesy of Mili Ghosh Photography. Nisha and Jiten had a wedding celebration spanning four days, where they hosted around eleven events in Hua Hin, Thailand. The theme of their wedding focused on their “Travel Journey”, which is the very core of their relationship. From Spain to Rajasthan, they unfolded each event with a destination.

I am so excited to feature the wedding celebration of Nisha and Jiten. From the jewelry, to designer bridalwear, to the amazing theme and decor: this wedding is full of lovely colors, romance, and is a fairytale in the true sense of word. I love how Indian weddings, and in particular this wedding, is full of family fun and fanfare. So get ready to be bedazzled and get some great ideas for your own wedding!

Nisha and Jiten’s wedding kicked off with a “Taste of Spain”, where the evening later unfolded with a Vegas themed Youngsters. In a typical Las Vegas style, there were blong signs to roulette tables. The outfits for the Spanish theme welcome dinner were designed by Rohit Bal, and shoes were by Stuart Weitzman. For the Youngsters, the outfits were by Jun Escario, and Shoes by YSL.

On the second day of celebration, the lovely couple planned an Out of the box Floral Fujiyama Mehendi high tea. Held in a lawn at the Hua Hin Sheraton, they replicated a Japanese garden, which was decorated with cabanas and floral pomanders. With shades of yellow, light green and orange, the japanese elements and  flowers made for a perfect mehendi on a gorgeous sunny afternoon.

Nisha’s outfit was a striking bright orange concept sari, designed by Tarun Tahiliani, which  made her stand out against the green floral theme of the mehendi decor. Nisha’s shoes were custom made by Monica Fig. The beautifully decorated cabanas were also used to entertain guests with foot massages, hookah and a mehendi corner. The event was very colorful with guests and family enjoying the dance numbers played by the DJ. With anticipation for the Sangeet night building up, the japanese mehendi was a perfect start to the wedding festivities for Nisha & Jiten.

Tell everyone you are going to say ‘I-Do’, In Style!

    February 15th, 2012

This blog post by our guest blogger Shrinkhla N. Khera of Let’s Talk Invites.

Your wedding is the most beautiful day of your life and we surely won’t have many people debating that statement. Just like everything around, the wedding styles and trends change as well and it is just fair for us to keep a lookout on what is happening around us.

The Wedding Stationery is one of the most important parts of the BIG day. This is not just because it is one of the first things you do, but also because the invitation gives a touch and feel of how the different wedding functions will look like. It builds up the guest’s expectations and beautiful invites always makes them crave for the upcoming events.

Just like everything else, the Indian wedding stationery has also evolved over time. That does not necessarily mean that it’s lost the traditional touch, but means that couples and guests have become much more open to experimenting with ideas, colors, fabrics and sizes.

Today, every couple looking for wedding stationery loves choice, and here we are presenting some of the most desirable ones on the shelves these days.

    Out of the Box:

Absolutely exclusive with beautiful boxes, the invites are coupled with chocolates, sweets, nuts or even gold plated flowers. The boxes can be made out of cardboard, which are easier to mail and turn out economical as well, chic leather or wood draped in fancy silk and decorated with brooches and buckles. This is something that is luxurious, elegant and a delight to receive. You can also get favor boxes at the reception and matching stationery at the event to complement this.

Featured Wedding of Mallika and Adam: Reception

    February 8th, 2012

This is a continuation of three part series of Mallika and Adam’s Wedding .In the last posts we featured the Getting Ready pictures and Wedding Ceremony, and this post will focus on their Reception.

Mallika and Adam’s wedding took place at the Adam’s Morgan Mansion in Washington, DC. As they had both met in college in DC, it seemed only fitting to host their wedding less than a mile away. The venue had a chalkboard in the cocktail area where an artist had drawn a picture of the two. The bride & groom left chalk for guests so that they could write messages for the couple. What an innovative guestbook idea!
