Featured Wedding of Mona and Vik: Made for each other

Featured Wedding, Wedding Ceremonies, Wedding Photography, wedding planning No Comments

It all started with a simple “you should meet this person” set up. Mona and Vik’s mutual friends Neeru and Lakshmi at first nicely suggested that they meet,  then asked again. Eventually they gave the two an ultimatum to meet “OR ELSE”. Mona and Vik lived only two blocks away and had common friends, but had never actually met until the night of their first date.

The original plan was a casual meeting at Starbucks, but a recommendation from Oprah (yes, that Oprah) caused Mona to make a last minute play for Pizano’s Pizza. The night was fun and, interesting. Mona was on her cell phone upon first introduction. Coincidentally, that night was also the start of Vik’s long and tenuous relationship with Mona’s cell phone. The two had great night of laughs and pizza. The date went so well that Mona invited her friends Tara and Mike, her sister Shruti, and her sister’s friend Johnnie to join.  First date and they were already all friends! Who knew this would be the start of a lifelong relationship.

Tell everyone you are going to say ‘I-Do’, In Style!

This blog post by our guest blogger Shrinkhla N. Khera of Let’s Talk Invites.

Your wedding is the most beautiful day of your life and we surely won’t have many people debating that statement. Just like everything around, the wedding styles and trends change as well and it is just fair for us to keep a lookout on what is happening around us.

The Wedding Stationery is one of the most important parts of the BIG day. This is not just because it is one of the first things you do, but also because the invitation gives a touch and feel of how the different wedding functions will look like. It builds up the guest’s expectations and beautiful invites always makes them crave for the upcoming events.

Just like everything else, the Indian wedding stationery has also evolved over time. That does not necessarily mean that it’s lost the traditional touch, but means that couples and guests have become much more open to experimenting with ideas, colors, fabrics and sizes.

Today, every couple looking for wedding stationery loves choice, and here we are presenting some of the most desirable ones on the shelves these days.

Out of the Box:

Absolutely exclusive with beautiful boxes, the invites are coupled with chocolates, sweets, nuts or even gold plated flowers. The boxes can be made out of cardboard, which are easier to mail and turn out economical as well, chic leather or wood draped in fancy silk and decorated with brooches and buckles. This is something that is luxurious, elegant and a delight to receive. You can also get favor boxes at the reception and matching stationery at the event to complement this.

Mallika and Adam’s wedding took place at the Adam’s Morgan Mansion in Washington, DC. As they had both met in college in DC, it seemed only fitting to host their wedding less than a mile away. The venue had a chalkboard in the cocktail area where an artist had drawn a picture of the two. The bride & groom left chalk for guests so that they could write messages for the couple. What an innovative guestbook idea!

How he proposed

Mallika & Adam met in college in Washington DC. To celebrate their fourth anniversary they went to Annapolis in Maryland, where they celebrated their first anniversary. They went on a walking tour of the city, and the tour guide kept not-so-subtly hinting that, after four years, it was about time for Adam to propose…little did she know. They also asked the concierge for advice on where to go for dinner, and the concierge kept telling them how she was trying to convince her son to propose to his girlfriend.

They decided to toast the event by bringing some champagne out to a little secluded beach before dinner. After they took a sip, Adam had Mallika close her eyes, so he could give her a present. When she opened the present, there was the ring! What a  perfect way to celebrate their anniversary and to start a new phase of their lives!

Wedding Day

Mallika and Adam’s Wedding Day was a great reflection of their personalities. Adam’s love for superheroes, was evident in the cufflinks worn by him and his groomsmen. I love the calla lilies and crystal accents used for the bride’s bouquet and boutonnieres.

Top Honeymoon Destinations

Honeymoon, wedding planning No Comments

Planning your honeymoon is just as important as planning your wedding. Your first vacation as husband and wife is a celebration of your marriage and one of the most romantic trips you will ever take, which is why it is imperative you plan on going somewhere fabulous, romantic and amazing for your honeymoon. Here is a list of some of the top romantic honeymoon destinations for couples.

Costa Rica & Belize

Spending your honeymoon on the beach is still one of the most favourable ways to celebrate your newly married status. However, more couples are forgoing tropical destinations such as the Caribbean and Hawaii for more exotic beach locations such as South America’s Costa Rica. In Costa Rica, honeymooners are still getting the beach vacation complete with clear blue water and white sand beaches, but with the added flair of zip lining, rain forests and surfing. Take your romance to an entirely different level by romancing each other high above the rainforest. Belize, also located in South America, is another exotic honeymoon hotspot for couples. If you are looking to spend your honeymoon exploring Mayan ruins, swimming beneath waterfalls in tropical rainforests and going on jungle tour safaris, Belize is the honeymoon destination for you. Secluded from the typical hotspots of the Caribbean and other South American cities, Belize is for the laid back, adventurous and not for the faint of heart.

The Sikh Wedding Ceremony

Traditions, Wedding Ceremonies, wedding planning No Comments

This week we will be focusing on Sikh Weddings. Sikh Weddings are full of lovely traditions, symbolism, culture, and beautiful values. Our series continues with the Day-of festivities.

On the day of the wedding, the bride and the groom are prepared for the ceremony by the members of their family.

Preparation

At the bride’s home, ornaments made of silver and gold resembling a shape of an umbrella, known as Kalira, are tied to her bangles or chooda by her family members. Kalira symbolizes warm wishes and blessings, and the bride wears them until the wedding ceremony is concluded. Once the kalrias are tied, the bride shakes them on the heads of unmarried friends and girls of the family. According to an old adage, if part of a kalira falls on one of the girl’s, she is next in line to be married.

At the groom’s home, the groom’s sister-in-law and female relatives, go to a nearby well or Gurdwara to fill an earthen pitcher with water, which is later used to bathe the groom. This ceremony is named after the earthen pitcher, known as Gharoli.

Fall 2011 Indian Fashion Trends

Fashion Friday, Lehengas and Sherwanis, Wedding Saris 1 Comment

For #FashionFriday, today, in collaboration with Rani By Neha Mahajan, we bring you the latest trends in Indian Wedding Fashion for Fall 2011.

Anarkalis are still the craze: Anarkalis suits make a style statement and looks good on everyone! They were worn during the Mughal era and look regal and classy. The Anarkali cut compliments all body types and the kalis or panels of the Anarkali can be increased or decreased based on one’s style. Moreover, almost any neckline and sleeve length works with this style!  This way you can make it as traditional and classy or sexy and modern as your want. An Anarkali makes for a great outfit for a Mehendi or a Sangeet.

In Style: Short ethnic vests are in style and can be used to dress up a Salwar Kameez or transform an old one into a stylish new one. Bonus Tip: You can even wear it over your LBD for an Indo-Western look!

This Anarkali, paired with a short ethnic vest, has a lovely crimson border and beautiful antique gold embroidery.

Fashion Friday, Lehengas and Sherwanis No Comments

Welcome to #FashionFriday on Marigold Events! #FashionFriday posts feature Indian Fashion Designers, talking about how they got started in the industry, and their unique style. Continuing with our series of posts written by Gina Mathew, Founder of Couture Rani, today we will feature Indian Fashion Designer Tarun Tahiliani, and his claim to fame.

The Beginning

One of the undisputed greats of Indian fashion, designer Tarun Tahiliani began his career in management after earning a business degree from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. After returning to India, Tahiliani saw the potential of the evening wear and couture market and conceived of a fashion boutique to house the best design talents in India. In 1987 Tarun and his wife Sailaja Launched ‘Ensemble,’ the first of it’s kind multi-brand boutique in Mumbai.  It was during this time that Tahiliani thought about launching his own design label. Although the designer had plenty of raw talent, he did not know how to sew or construct garments. In order to hone his technical knowledge and become proficient in these areas, he enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. Following his return to India from New York, Tahiliani founded his design studio and eponymous label in 1991 and set up base in New Delhi as he believed this was where fashion center would develop in India.
